It’s not just me that feels the overwhelming urge to thank #ChatGPT is it?
This place is not a place of honor… no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here.
It’s not just me that feels the overwhelming urge to thank #ChatGPT is it?
Moving from a job with a coding standard of “no early returns” to one with “return early, don’t use else” is a head-fuck.
So I have my own hosted RSS reader and also run a hosted Podcast reading service.
For 10+ years I have been fighting with feeds that are hosted behind Cloudflare that block access to server-side crawlers.
My current solution is starting to fail and I’m getting blocked more often again. Before I start trying to fix this myself, is there already an accepted solution? I know I’m not the only person who runs their own hosted RSS reader. What’s everyone else doing?
RSS is apparently 25 years old today. I am a comparative newcomer to it having written my first RSS reader 20 years ago.
I love almost everything about #CarPlay. I just don’t get why it doesn’t have the one feature I’ve had in all my dumb car stereos for 20-odd years: scrolling marquee track names.
@siracusa I heard your concerns that lawsuits weren’t a great way to regulate company behaviour on @atpfm and I wondered if you had seen this article: https://ianbetteridge.com/2024/03/22/a-few-thoughts-on-the-apple-doj-antitrust-case-from-someone-who-isnt-riding-his-first-rodeo/
It suggests that a conviction and the threat of a bigger future sanction like break-up makes companies self-regulate.
So perhaps Apple will go further for the US because of a vague fear, than they will for the EU where they maliciously comply with the letter of an explicit regulation.
I have written my first professional #ruby PR. And by “I” I mean “ChatGPT and Stack Overflow” because I haven’t the slightest idea how ruby works.
#introduction since I’ve moved servers.
My name is Gareth Simpson. I am an allegedly professional software developer.
I live on a little farm in the middle of nowhere.
In my spare time have an unhealthy interest in all things #RSS and in making #iOS apps for pretty much just myself.
If you are ever frustrated by how hard it is to listen to a podcast in order from the first episode you might like this: https://recastthis.com
So because of my perpetual frustration with Cloudflare, I’ve made a thing. It’s a bit like FeedBurner, but with an emphasis on fetching feeds that are blocked by poor Cloudflare configuration. If there’s a feed that you can’t read in your RSS reader of choice, consider trying it here. It’s a work in progress, but I would appreciate help building my pool of blocked feeds. Currently I can read all the feeds I care about except 1.
This is an automatic archive of posts made by Gareth Simpson on various services around the internet.
